Technology: We have chosen the technologies to use for the vital signs monitor. A ppg red-light sensor to take heart rate and oxygen levels. The ICS-40300 Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) microphone will be used to take the respiration rate. An infrared temperature sensor will be used to measure the temperature of the patient. A Bluetooth-enabled Arduino board will be used to transmit the data from the monitor to an Android app for the nurses in the hospital.

Testing: We have begun testing for the individual components of the vital signs monitor. We are currently assembling the final prototype and hope to begin clinical testing soon, as we already have IRB approval from Carilion Hospital in Roanoke.
